Philip Van Allen is my 2nd great grandfather and the son of Garret W. Van Allen and Hannah Winne. He was a farmer and a judge in St. Clair County, MO. He married Adaline Wayne on May 25, 1841 in the New Scotland Presbyterian Churh, Albany, NY.
Together, Philip and Adeline had five children: John Philip, James Wayne (my great grandfather), Martha Matilda, Anna Marie and Magdalen Van Wie, all baptized in the Jerusalem Reformed Church, Feura Bush, NY.
Philip was engaged in merchandising in Albany and in 1870 moved his family to Missouri. In the meantime, however, he had lived in Illinois for a period and afterward had engaged in farming about twenty-five miles from Chicago. It was from that place he removed to Missouri, settling upon a farm in St. Clair County, between Osceola and Appleton City, where both he and his wife passed away. He was elected county judge of St. Clair County on the Republican ticket and was a prominent and influential citizen of the community.
