James Wayne Van Allen was my g-grandfather. He was born in Jerusalem (Feura Bush), Albany County, New York to Philip Van Allen and Adaline Wayne. He was a descendant of Pieter Van Alen/Allen, who immigrated from Holland to New Netherlands (Albany County, NY) around 1660.
He was christened in the Jerusalem Reformed Church, Feura Bush, NY.
He was the brother of John Philip, Martha Matilda and Anna Marie.
At a young age, he moved with his family from New York to St. Clair County, Missouri. There he met Mary Elizabeth Chinn. They were married on January 20, 1876 in St. Clair County.
In 1896, James moved his family to Indian Territory, Creek Nation,Oklahoma, traveling by covered wagon. Twins, Burley and Pearly, were born in a wagon yard in Checotah, about 13 miles from Eufaula, where the family finally settled.
James died only a few years after the move, leaving his wife and many small children.
