Roy was born on Balsam Mountain on June 23, 1931, to Garcie and Alma Lindsay Curry. He was the oldest of their children. He grew up in Thomasville and at age of 17 joined the Army serving a tour of duty during the Korean conflict. After discharge from the Army, he returned to High Point where he met and married Margaret Jennings on December 6, 1952. Roy re-enlisted in the army and he was stationed at various stateside posts always returning his family to High Point when stationed overseas. He served in Germany and on the front line in Vietnam. After 13 and a half years he was honorably discharged from the service in 1966. Roy was a long distance truck driver for Pilot Freight Carriers. He owned and operated the Alibi Package Store in Spencer, N.C. In 1970, he began a concession business from which he became popular in High Point as "The Candy Man". He continued to provide sweets to the community until his declining heath prohibited him from continuing.

Roy is survived by two siblings, Ruby Hatley of Lexington and Ralph Curry of Welcome; four children, Chuck Curry of Randleman, Debbie Hooks of Wallburg, Patricia Jarrett of Greensboro, Richard Curry of Thomasville; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 14, at Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point.
