Donald O. Dixon, 83, of Greensboro, North Carolina, formerly of Inverness, Florida, died Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Wesley Long Community Hospital (Hospice Unit) in Greensboro.
Funeral services with full military honors will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, September 19, at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Mr. Dixon was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 21, 1925, to the late Oscar and Ethel (Ekstrom) Dixon and retired to Inverness in 1989 from Boone, North Carolina before moving to Greensboro in 2005. He served our country in the United States Navy and United States Air Force and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War having retired with the rank of Master Sergeant with over 21 years of service. Following his military service, he graduated from Florida International University and served as a high school science teacher.
Survivors include three sons, David (Cathy) Dixon of Spokane, Washington, James Dixon and Richard Steve (Betsy) Moody of Inverness; one daughter, Donna (Terry) Lambert of Greensboro, North Carolina; his sister, Hazel Morrison of Boston, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Brady Dixon and Bailey Lambert.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Lena H. Dixon on April 2, 2005; and his brother, Robert Dixon.
