Birth: Apr. 14, 1798, USA
Death: Jan. 3, 1871, USA

Signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. Born in North Carolina, nothing is known of William Clark until his marriage to Martha Wall sometime in the 1820s; he was by this time living in Georgia as a highly successful farmer and merchant. In 1835, he and his family moved to the Sabine area of Texas where he lived as a wealthy landowner. He was nominated one of the delegates to represent the Sabine Municipality at the Convention of 1836 to discuss the coming secession and war with Mexico, and during the meeting signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. After the Convention, he assisted ad interim president David Burnet with supplying the militia during the Texas revolution. After Texas won its independence, he served on the Sabine County Board of Land Commissioners until September 1837 when he was elected to the Texas Congress as the representative of Sabine County; unfortunately, he had to vacate his post the following April due to illness. During the 1850s he moved to the east Texas area and bought the Planter Hotel in Nacogdoches which he ran until his death in 1871. (bio by: Screwtape)
