Born in Calgary, September 16, 1986, Jessica passed away August 19, 2007 after a difficult and courageous battle with melanoma.
Jessica wrote: "I passed away peacefully and happily at home. I lived the most wonderful life that any person could ever imagine, aside from being sick for nine years. I had the most incredible family and friends. You were all so amazing and I want you all to know that I loved you very much. I've been described as a person whose energy and positive attitude was infectious and refreshing, extremely enthusiastic and able to impact many people at such a young age. My love for life and others was very contagious. I attended Lester B. Pearson High School. During my three years there, I played on the basketball team and was involved in the drama department. In Grade 12, I organized and participated in the "Shave Your Lid For A Kid"; I shaved off seventeen inches of my hair (donated to Locks of Love) and as a school we were able to raise $8,000 for the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. After graduating in 2004, I went to U of L, majoring in Psychology. I dreamed of working at the Children's Hospital as a Psychologist. Unfortunately, I was only able to complete two years in school before I got sick. While in Lethbridge, I met the love of my life, Wes Chapman. I couldn't imagine what the last three years would have been like without him in it. In my spare time I loved playing basketball, scrapbooking, baking, playing yahtzee, hanging out with my friends and family, eating at East Side Mario's and going to my grandparents' cabin in BC. I was also involved with the Calgary Minor Basketball Association for the past eight years as a distinguished official and committee member. Refereeing basketball was the best job that I ever had because of all the people that I encountered along the way! I am survived by my parents, Tom and Jennifer; my brothers, Bryan, David and Sean; my puppy Rufus; my great-grandmothers Gerda Ringwelski and Ella Thiedemann; my grandmothers Jo-Ann Van Dyk and Rosemarie Thiedemann; and a great number of family, extended family and friends. I am predeceased by both of my grandfathers, Peter Van Dyk (1995) and Winfried Thiedemann (2001)."
Funeral Service held at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, August 25, 2007.
