| Birth: | Feb. 16, 1831 | | Death: | Feb. 2, 1893 |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General, US Congressman. He was a member of the Indiana State Senate and resigned at the outbreak of the Civil War to enter the Union Army in 1861. Commissioned a Captain in the 15th Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry, he became a Major of the 36th Regiment and was promoted Colonel of the 69th Regiment in August 1862. He commanded 69th Regiment for the remainder of the war and was brevetted Brigadier General of US Volunteers in March 1865. After the war, he was elected a member of the State Senate, serving 1864 to 1867. In 1875, he was eleceted as an Independent to the Forty-fourth Congress, serving until 1876.
