Bud was born June 13, 1920 in Meadows Valley. He was one of four boys born to Clarence and Fannie LaFay. When Bud graduated from MV High School in 1937, he joined his Dad in the pool hall and barbershop business.
In 1941, he married Marcia J. Wilson and they started their family. Bud joined the Navy in 1944 and was stationed in Guam until his discharge in 1946.
Later in 1955, Marcia joined Bud in the family business until they both retired in 1993. "LaFay's Place" and the "Bud LaFay Haircut" were well known by young and old.
Bud was also a boxer, hunter, trap shooter and avid golfer. He shot his first hole-in-one after his 80th birthday and played golf almost every day until he turned 90.
Bud is survived by his children, Mona, Milton "Buddy" and Miles; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcia; his parents; and his brothers, Lamoine, Milton and Eugene (Gene).
A joint graveside memorial service is planned for Bud and Marcia at the Meadows Valley Cemetery Sept. 29th at 11:30 AM, with a dinner following at the Senior Citizens Center in New Meadows.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to MV Senior Center, Box 339 or to the Historical Society, Box 352 both of New Meadows, Idaho 83654.
