John Wesley Wyatt was born in Virginia on 1 Jan 1781. John was possibly a veteran of the War of 1812.
Family verbal history from many lines say that John's father came to Virginia and was killed by Indians when John was very young. (Still have no proof of this).
Moved west at an early date and was married 19 Aug 1817, in Madison Co., Illinois, to Rebecca Wyatt, daughter of John & Hannah (Vincent) Wyatt. Two children were born to this union and the Rebecca is assumed to have died. Possibly during childbirth.
On 12 Jan 1823, in Kane Twp., Greene Co., Illinois, John remarried to the Widow Mary "Polly" (Redding) Leonard. Polly brought 2 children into the marriage. Five children were born to John and Polly, while residing in Kane, Illinois.
In 1836 John & Polly were living in Dubuque Co., Iowa, and in 1840 they were Jefferson Co., Iowa. The couple were living in Putnam County, Missouri by the time of John's death in 1857.
After John's death, Polly lived with her daughter Etna (Wyatt) Meeker until her death in 1870.
