Judge Clinton K. Higgins Jr., 78, Greenfield, Missouri, passed away at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.
Kelly received his law degree from Washington University. After graduation he began a distinguished 22 year career in the Navy. He reached the rank of captain, serving as a District Judge Advocate General in the Naval JAG Corps at the time of his retirement in 1976.
After the completion of his naval career, Kelly had the honor of serving the people of Dade County as Associate Circuit Judge. He was well-respected and was re-elected to the office numerous times over an 18 year span. He retired from the position in 1994 due to health concerns. He was a member of the Delta Theta Phi law fraternity and also the American and Missouri Bar Associations.
Kelly is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Marge; a sister, Ann Rooney, North Carolina; four children and their spouses, Marcy Johnson, Mike Higgins, Jim Higgins and his wife, Debbie, and Peggy Howard and her husband, Alan; and five grandchildren and their spouses, Chris Johnson and his wife, Savannah, Ross Higgins, Brandon Johnson, Justin Higgins and Shannon Higgins. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
He will always be remembered for his quick wit and hearty laugh. He was a good and decent man, an exemplary husband and father, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2008, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel with Pastor Harold McMasters officiating.
