Maxine Hicks McIntyre, 84, of Springfield, passed away at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, September 23, 2006, in St. John's RHC. She was born April 17, 1922, in Brookline the daughter of Marcell and Maude Brown Hendrix. When Maxine was just nine years old, her father, Sheriff Marcell Hendrix, was killed in the infamous Young Massacre in 1932. Maxine's mother, Maude, finished Marcell's term after his death and her brother, Glenn, later served four terms as Greene County Sheriff. She was a graduate of Republic High School and attended what is now Missouri State University. Maxine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who cherished all of the people in her life and all of life's experiences. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Springfield for over 60 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Glenn and Merle Hendrix; her first husband, Harold H. "Curley" Hicks in 1985 and her second husband, Robert J. "Bob" McIntyre in 2005. Maxine is survived by her daughter, Carol Faught of Springfield; son, Steve Hicks and wife, Sheila, of Nixa; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Jeff Faught of Halltown; Lori Faught and fianc?, Dave Straub, and children, Caleb and Hannah Straub; Scott Faught and wife, Nancy, and children, Tyler and Sara of Highlandville; Holly Hicks of Springfield; Chandler Hicks of Nixa; and Lance Lathrop of Minneapolis, Minn.; stepdaughter, Mary Zile and husband, Ron, of Springfield; sister-in-law, Ada Hendrix of Springfield; nieces, Perri Pender and husband, Doug, and son, Michael of Kansas City, Mo., Gayle Priester and husband, Charles, and family of Aurora; nephews, Richard Hendrix and wife, Nancy, and children, Glenn and wife, Cristy, and Scott and wife, Tawyna, of Springfield; Robert Hendrix and wife, Mary, and children, Carol, Holly and Daniel of Oak Park, Calif.; and her dearest friends of 67 years, Grace Evans of Springfield. Graveside services will be Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Eastlawn Cemetery with the Reverend Michael Overton officiating, under the care of Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. tonight in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2446 E. Madrid, Springfield, MO 65804.
