My grandmother,Sedwell was born in Attleborough Massachusetts, the youngest of six children. Her father died when she was just 16, so she and her mother and sister Drusilla were soon on their own.

Sedwell married young to Jesse Stanley, and just as quickly obtained a divorce after a little over a year of marriage.
She lived in a boarding house and took a job as a receptionist in a lawyer's office. There she met my grandfather. She was very much of the time and a flapper girl , loved to party and bob her hair and dance into the wee hours.

They married in 1922 and had two children while living on Elmwood Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island. When the Great Depression made it difficult to find housing and a job, my grandfather decided it was time to move back to his hometown of Philadelphia . There they raised their children and had another son in 1943, much to Sedwell's surprise! After spending 35 years living in the suburbs my grandmother figured it was time she be allowed to live in New England where she considered it home. They joined the rest of the family on Cape Cod in 1964.

Sedwell loved to garden and red geraniums were her favorite.

She and I were working on her rock garden one day and found a large stone. She and I decided to uncover it and put it to use. It turned out to be the size of what we both exclaimed- a small horse! But uncover it we did and she cultivated and turned it into the garden she dreamed about .

She enjoyed every moment here but sadly, after living here on Cape Cod only 3 years she died.

She is the mother of Ruth Estelle,Charles Robert and Edward Roger .
