Roman Catholic Saint. He was a missionary to the Huron Indians. Killed by Iroquois, enemies of the Huron, for making the sign of the cross of a child's head. Died tomahawked in the head following two months of torture in 1642. His body was dragged by the Iroquois children and eaten by animals. His bones were secretly buried by his comrade Father Isaac Jogues. He was canonized in 1930.
