Lucy Michele Dye Johnson, 31, died July 16, 2008.
She was born July 12, 1977 in Gaston County, daughter of Michael Dye of Gastonia and Michele Dye of Oak Island, NC.
She was educated in schools of Gaston County and graduated from Gardner-Webb University with a degree in nursing and worked as a Registered Nurse in the emergency room of Kings Mountain Hospital.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her children, Lauren Taylor Okruhlica and Cason Michael Spelock; sisters, Anna Leigh Dye of Portland, Ore. and Jane Ashley Dye of Oak Island. paternal grandmother, Ruby Smith Dye of Gastonia; nephew, Kenneth D. McCorkle of Oak Island.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Charlie W. Barnes and Lucy D. Barnes; paternal grandfather, Willard M. Dye.
Officials found the body of Lucy Johnson in her home July 16. Neighbors called 911 at 3:01 a.m. and firefighters had the fire under control by 3:45 p.m., though getting inside at first proved difficult because of the intensity of the fire and the instability of the charred structure.
Johnson's two children, a 7-year-old daughter and 6-month-old son, were not at home at the time. Johnson's family said she was pregnant.
