Appomattox: James Howard Pillow, Sr., 82, of 132 Poplar Drive, died Monday, January 29, 2007 in Avanté at Roanoke. He was the husband of the late Shirley Cyrus Pillow. Born in Charlotte County, VA, March 31, 1924, he was a son of the late Jesse David Pillow and Annie Ruth Harper Pillow. Mr. Pillow was an US Army Veteran serving in WWII, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, a retired carpenter and a member of the VFW, Appomattox. He is survived by a son, James H. Pillow, Jr. of Appomattox; a brother, Larry Dean Pillow, Sr. of Altavista and a sister, Mabel Estelle Torrence of Brookneal. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace Holmes Pillow. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, February 2, 2007 at Robinson Funeral Home by the Rev. Donnie Stevens with burial following in Old Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 7-8:30 pm and other times at the residence of John and Kathy Cyrus, 1619 Rainbow Forest Drive, Lynchburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 23038-1131.
