Birth: Oct. 13, 1934
Death: Dec. 15, 2004

Jay B. Jacobs was born on October 13, 1934 in San Antonio. He went to be with our Lord on December 15, 2004 after an incredibly courageous battle with cancer. Jay was 70 years old. He grew up and was educated in San Antonio. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955. On November 24, 1955, he married Betty Lee Lauderdale. He graduated from St. Mary's University with a BBA in Marketing in 1959. Jay began his career as a Branch Manager with General Electric from 1959-1969. At this time, he became employed by Broadway National Bank for 20 years. He was a vice president. He was an active member at Holy Trinity Catholic Church where he also enjoyed his activities with the Knights of Columbus. Jay was the quiet one in the room. It took so little to bring joy into his heart. He loved animals, nature, art, and road trips but nothing could complete with the real treasure in his life - his wife, his two children and his three grandchildren. Place one of these people beside him and discover that nothing could injure his spirit - not even the tormenting pain of his cancer. He was unselfish with his children and grandchildren. Our needs and desires always came first. We will miss so, so many things about him - his grin, his funny play with words, his strength, his calling out for us, watching our favorite shows together, the way he loved on his beloved puppy, watching him admire a flower or a hummingbird, his scent, and everything else included in the beautiful love that he felt for us. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander J. Jacobs and Lillian Beatrice Bostic Jacobs. He is survived by his beautiful loving wife of 49 years, Betty Lauderdale Jacobs; son, Dr. Jeffery J. Jacobs; daughter-in-law, Jamie Jacobs; daughter, Dr. Joni J. Childers; brother, James Jacobs; grandson, Zachary Childers; granddaughters, Meagan Jacobs and Blaire Jacobs; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tommy and Cathy Lauderdale; several special nephews and nieces; dear friends, Bill and Bobbie Leikam and Missy and Riely. Jay's family would like to send a special note of love and gratitude to Dr. David Gordon, Dr. Juan Carlos Hernandez and their incredibly professional and loving staff members at Cancer Care Centers of South Texas. Visitation will begin on Sunday, December 19, 2004 at 6:00 P.M. at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. that evening. A Mass will take place at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 20523 Huebner Rd. (off of Stone Oak) on Monday, December 20, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. with Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park North Cemetery, 20900 I-10 West. In lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Disease Research. Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.
