Marine Sgt Angus was assigned to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, as a rifleman. He was killed while on foot patrol when an improvised explosive device detonated. Daniel's family moved to Thonotosassa, Florida when he was 2. He graduated in 2000 from Armwood High School and began working construction. But that was not what he felt he was meant to do – he knew he wanted a life with more direction and accomplishment. In 2003, Daniel joined the Marines where he knew he belonged and where he planned on making a career. Friends would comment on how the Marines brought out the best in him and made him a man. Daniel served two tours in Iraq and loved being a Marine. His awards included the Combat Action Ribbon, two Good Conduct Medals, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a number of service decorations. Daniel loved spending time with his wife, Bonnie, and 1 year old daughter. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and mudding. When Daniel came home, hundreds lined the streets waving flags and saluting. Elderly residents in wheelchairs, nineteen sheriff's deputies on motorcycles, a dozen judges in their black robes, as well as many more came to welcome back a hometown hero. Even though Daniel had been on other deployments, somehow he knew this third one would be the last – before leaving, he broke down on his knees and cried.
