Former owner of Richmond Ford

Waverly Gretter King Jr., of Richmond, died Sunday, January 11, 2004 in Henrico Doctors' Hospital. A native of Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late Waverly Gretter King Sr. and Christine Elizabeth Chenoweth King. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and attended VPI and the University of Arizona at Tuscon. He was associated for many years with his brother and father in the family business, Richmond Ford, and was the former owner of Automotive Rebuilders. He was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Fellow, a 32nd degree Mason, Joppa Lodge #40, ACCA Temple Yacht Club PC, Royal Order of Jesters Scottish Rite, Coast Guard Auxiliary Commander Flotilla #34, Richmond Power Squadron, Mathews Yacht Club PC, Virginia Yacht Club, The Country Club of Virginia, The Commonwealth Club, and The Dominion Club. Mr. King is survived by his wife, Patricia Birkbeck King; his sons, Waverly Gretter King III of Richmond, and William Worth King of Richmond; his daughters, Christine King Porter of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and Nancy King Stringfellow of Vienna, Va.; five stepchildren, Christopher E. Baybutt, Stephen D. Baybutt, Kenneth M. Baybutt, Michael P. Baybutt and Laurianne Baybutt Freeman; 23 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert C. King Sr. of Richmond. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Homes' Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends Tuesday, January 13, 2004, from 6 to 8 p.m., and where a Masonic service will take place at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2004, 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, Office of Development, International Shrine Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Fla. 33607-1460.
