His mother, Sarah Ann Reis, received a Mother's pension. She was born about 1812 and a resident of Allen County, Ohio. Post Office West Cairo. His father, Daniel Reis, was 74 years of age and unable to support his wife. The pensioner was dropped when information was received of her death 18 Dec 1889. There were variations in the spelling of Reis as Rees and Reece. Sarah A. Reese was living in the household next to her daughter, Elizabeth Snider, in the 1880 census. Jospehus' sister, Angelina Elizabeth Reese Snyder, has memorial ID #46481059. In Sarah Ann Reis' last will and testament, she bequeathed "the picture and frame of her brother Josephus Reis" to Angelina. Her first wish was to have her debts paid and "also a suitable monument to be placed on my grave." (I have not found her grave.)
