According to family history - from grandson of Thomas.
Thomas Jefferson Owens, as Sheriff of Independence County Arkansas, would help capture train robbers in Nov 1893.
Known as the Olyphant train robbery. Several lawmen of neighboring counties joined in the hunt.During this time, Sheriff Owens caught pneumonia but would not quit the search. His men tried to get him to go in but he told them "...no ,I'm sheriff and have to stay with the posse...". The train robbers were caught, and it is said T J Owens never fully recovered his health.He died a few months later in 1894.According to Newark newspaper article, "it was the biggest outing of buggies at his funeral that had ever been."
