John Dayton "Shorty" Hughart,
82, of Rt. 5, Box 350,
Charleston, died Wednesday in
St. Francis Hospital.
He was a retired grocery
(Hugharts Grocery)
store operator on Tuppers
Creek and attended West Virginia
University. Mr. Hughart
was a World War I veteran and
was a member of Walker Chapel
church. Preceded in death by his wife, Erna Macel Boggess Hughart and daughter, Maxine Gay.

Va., Mrs. Helen Jones, Mrs.
Opal Tyler, both of Rt. 5,
Charleston, Miss Beatrice Hughart
at home, Mrs. Gale Harrison of

Glenn and Lowell, both of Rt. 5,
Charleston, Ira of Sissonville;
half sisters, Mrs. Grovie Stonestreet
of Rt. 4, Charleston, Mrs.

and mother, Mary E. Slater, 1866-1896, both are burried in Hughart Cemetery, Legg Fork of Tuppers Creek (Hughart Hollow, Legg creek). Married July 27, 1882. Josephs other spouse, Emma D. Reese, 1865-Dec. 30, 1896

John's first wife was: Altha Grace Good Hughart,
A neice of Altha's says she's pretty sure Altha died from
the flu. From the symtoms she had before her death, when they named the flu, the family determined that that was what killed her. She and John married Dec. 25, 1917. John was 27 and Altha was 23.
