2nd Wife of Lealand G. Crawford. Married 17 May 1974 in Fresno, Fresno, California. She is the daughter of George F Coffman and Margaret L Suddarth.

Couple's 64-Year 'Romance' Ends With Vows

After 64 years, Edna Doty got up her Missouri nerve and said to Lealand Crawford "show me."
And he did last week when they were married in Mrs. Doty's home. Edna is 85 and Lealand is 88.
"We're still on our honeymoon, and we probably will be for another 50 years," Crawford said Tuesday.
Blushingly, the new Mrs. Crawford agreed and said her husband had been spoiling her since the wedding. "He even brought me coffee in bed this morning."
The couple first met in Fresno when their parents lived on Cherry Ave. Time and circumstances intervened and they saw each other infrenquently in the years between.
They both married and lost their spouses over the years. Edna's husband died 31 years ago, Crawford's wife died last year.
They kept in touch through family and friends while Crawford lived in Riverdale County and early last October, Lealand came courting.
"He came to see me, but I had company so I didn't get to visit with him," she said.
But they exchanged telephone numbers and addresses and a steady flow of letters and phone calls ensued.
Heartened, Lealand made other visits through the winter and they began to talk of a permanent relationship.
"We've always had a great deal of respect for each other, and it developed into love," Crawford said with a twinkle in his blue eyes.
They continued courting, all the while discussing the practicality of their blossoming love. Soon, the talk was narrowed down to whether Edna should move to Riverside or vice versa.
"We decided that we both had a lot of relatives up here, so Fresno was the most logical place. I burned all my bridges behind me," he said.
Their philosophy about being in love at their age is simiple. "We've had friends say we act 70 years younger, but we don't care. We take care of each other and there is no loneliness," Mrs. Crawford said.
Mrs. Crawford, partially crippled by arthritis, has a constant and faithful companion in Lealand and she is proud of it.
"Everything we do is done together, you know I got a wonderful man. We can take care of each other, there is no need for rest homes." said Mrs. Crawford, who has a 68-year-old son confined to a convalescent home. She has four other children living in Calfornia.
Edna came to Fresno from Missouri in 1902 and Lealand was born on a farm in the Seville area of Tulare County.
Last week part of the courting came to an end as they anticipated a "small" ceremony in thier E. Hedges Avenue home. They were pleasantly surprised by a party of 30 friends and relatives organized by Mrs. Crawford's daughter, Mrs. Mildred Lawrence, and Mrs. Edna Van Leuven.
Mrs. Van Leuven put a good word in at the county clerk's office and the couple was surprised to find telveision cameras and enthusiastic county employes eager to help them.
Edna said they were so excited and overwhelmed they forgot to turn in the blood test forms. But what's a technicality like that after 64 years?
