She married Hans V. Haefs on November 21, 1934 in La Crosse. He preceded her in death on May 20, 1983. Hans and Margaret were charter members of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crescent and together they owned and operated Haefs Construction in La Crescent for over 40 years.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Caroline (James) Zoes of Woodstock, Illinois, and Evelyn (H.Charles) Bone of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; three sons, Harley (Carol) Haefs of La Crosse, Donald (Annete) Haefs of La Crescent Minnesota, and Melvin (Cozeete) Haefs of La Crescent, Minnesota, 12 grandchildren, Brian (Tammy) Haefs of La Crosse, Wisconsin Amy (Gregory) Hoffman of Eagan, Minnesota, Jolene (Nathan) Lee of Evanston, Illinois, Michael (Terrie) Haefs of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Kenneth (Amy) Haefs of La Crescent, Minnesota, Gregory Haefs of Lisle, Illinois, Stephanie Haefs of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Cassandra Zoes, James Zoes and Christiana Zoes, all of Woodstock, Illinois, and Gwendolyn Bone and Rebecca Bone, both of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; four great grandchildren; one sister, Edna Radtke of La Crescent, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Rosie Muenzenberger of West Salem, Wisconsin. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Clarence and Edward.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 1998 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of La Crescent. The rev. Paul A. Ibisch will officiate. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. The Schumacher-Kisch Funeral Home of La Crescent is in charge of arrangements.
