Madeline Swank Cummins, 102, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, near Lexington, Ky. She was born Madeline Virginia Swank on May 9, 1906, in Singers Glen, the youngest child of Samuel Henton Swank and Nettie Virginia Donovan Swank. At her death, she was the oldest member of Donovan Memorial United Methodist Church in Singers Glen, Va., a church named in memory of Rev. John Donovan, her mother's half-brother.
Madeline graduated from Shenandoah College in Dayton, and worked as a secretary for B. Ney & Sons in Harrisonburg for a number of years. On March 6, 1941, she married Frank Cummins, a civil engineer from Lexington, Ky. They lived in Harrisonburg, Baltimore, Michigan, and Kentucky.
Mrs. Cummins was predeceased by her husband and by sisters Maud S. Lee and Mabel Ruddle and brothers J. Robert Swank and Reuel Swank, all of Singers Glen. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Lexington, Ky.
