Fritz Baumhoefer was one of three brothers and three sisters who came, a singly and in groups, with their mother, Wilhelmina Horstmann Baumhoefer, from Versmold, Wesphalia, to Washington, Franklin County, in the 1850s and 1860s: Henry Franz Baumhoefer (1838-1922); Charlotte Baumhoefer Gueltzau (1840-1923), Francisca Baumhoefer (b. abt. 1841), William Frederick Baumhoefer (1843-1914), and Johanna Baumhoefer Wilke (1846-1937).
He married twice; with his first wife Louisa Werner, he had five children, including two sons, Gustave, and Edward; all died but Gustave. His second wife, Karoline Wehlewald Horstmann (1834-1895), brought six children from her first marriage to Fritz' farm outside Washington: Mary, Amelia, Charles, George, Edwin, and Anna.
Fritz died in on the farm of his stepson Charles Horstmann, surrounded by grandchildren.
