Birth: Jan. 6, 1889
Gilpin County
Colorado, USA
Death: Apr. 28, 1893
Colorado, USA

Family history indicates that Edna Mae and her siblings Francis, George and Mabel, were born in "Lake Gulch", Gilpin County, Colorado, but I can find no town of that name in Gilpin County. There is a Lake Gulch in Douglas County. Perhaps the boundaries changed or there WAS a town of that name in Gilpin, but it is no more. In the census of 1880 and 1900 they are still living in Gilpin County, and I think that is the county in which Edna passed away, but other documentation indicates it was Denver County. In any case, she was only 4 when she succumbed to some illness.

The story of Edna Mae's parents is both quaint and charming. Both were born in England. George was from the tiny community of Curry Mallet in Somerset, close to or in the area of England called Cornwall. Edna's mother, Eliza Jane Oliver was the daughter of a Weslyan Reform Minister, John H. Oliver and his wife Sarah M. Haycox, all of them having been born in Cornwall, England. Eliza Jane was 13 or 14 when she met George. He travelled to America to make his fortune and made arrangements for Eliza Jane to follow him. They married in New York City almost immediately upon her arrival. Eliza Jane was only 15.

Edna's birth family moved from New York to New Jersey, to Pennsylvania and then Colorado, where Edna and 3 of her siblings were born. Edna's father was a laborer and may have worked in the mines in Colorado. When Edna Mae was still almost a toddler, she died. Her mother is buried in the same plot with her, ripped apart too soon, but together again for eternity.

Rest in peace, little one, in the arms of your mother, watched over by angels. May we all meet in heaven one day!
