"Bachi" is listed in the family genealogy as "Wladyslawa/Wiola (Viola) Tercylanka/Terrick." It is also noted that on at least one of her children's birth certificates she is listed as "Gladi Terick."
She was born in Rogi, Poland. It is believed she lived in the Krakow area before coming to the United States.
Family history tells that her husband Walter Wicki (Wladyslaw Joseph Krzewicki) came to America first and then sent for for Bachi's sister, but Bachi came instead. They were married around 1903.
Bachi could not read or write English and would sign her name with an "X." My mother often spoke of Bachi, passing on various wisdom and folklore and remedies that she remembered her grandmother giving her as a child. (She never explained to me that Bachi was my great-grandmother, though, so until I was eight or so, I thought "Bachi" was the name of a wise old village healer man!) She often spoke of what a sharp old lady Bachi was, and how she was very shrewd at buying and selling property. My oldest sister was named for a character Bachi loved in one of her soaps; when my mother was pregnant, Bachi encouraged her over and over to "name the baby "Sympia!"" (Cynthia.)
She passed away at age 83. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Great Meadows, NJ. At the time of her death in 1967, she was survived by 23 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
