"Roy Alt, 89, of Livingston, died on Wednesday morning, March 22, 2000 at the Livingston Memorial Hospital. Mr. Alt was born on April 10, 1910 in Francesville, Indiana, the son of Sam and Mary (McMahan) Alt. His family moved to Harlowton when he was just a year old. He spent his early years and attended schools there. He stayed in the Harlowton area and worked as a farm and ranch hand until he was 20, when he moved to Anaconda. he went to work for the Anaconda Company and, after a short stint in the smelter, he realized that a smelter was no place for a ranch hand. As luck would have it, the company was also in the sheep business back then, and he was able to stay on with them in that capacity. After a few years, Mr. Alt moved to Livingston, where he met Ethel Marion Skillman. They were married on September 15, 1936, in Livingston. Mr. Alt went to work for the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1937. After 36 years with the railroad, he retired in 1972, having worked his way up to pipe fitter and sheet metal worker. After his retirement the Alts remained in Livingston, enjoying 64 years together.

Ever since his early years, Mr. Alt has had a love of the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed time spent camping, fishing and hunting. He also was an avid bowler and loved the challenge of a friendly bowling match and improving his average. He belonged to Senior Leagues in both Livingston and Bozeman. He also was a member of the Park County Senior Citizens Center and could often be seen there enjoying the company of many of his friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Ethel Marion (Skillman) Alt, four sons; two brothers; two sisters; one sister-in-law; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary (McMahan) Alt; his brother Eldon Alt and two sisters, Vida McCullough and Helen Magnuson.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 24 at Franzen Davis Funeral Home in Livingston. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 25 at the First Baptist Church in Livingston with The Rev. Ben Moor officiating.
