Fr. Maurice Piszczatowski, OFM Conv. was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 11, 1929, the son of the later Teofil and Veronica Piszczatowski. Graduating from St. Francis High School in Athol Springs, NY, and wanting to follow in the footsteps of the Friars he knew from his home parish in Chelsea, MA and from high school, Fr. Maurice entered the Conventual Franciscan Novitiate, Becket, MA, in 1946. Following studies in Ellicott City, MD and Granby, MA, Fr. Maurice was ordained a priest in the chapel of St. Hyacinth College & Seminary on June 29, 1953. He would go one to complete a Master's degree in education from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY in 1968. For many years he taught mathematics and coached sports, including years spent at St. Francis High School, Athol Springs, NY (1953-57; 1958-61; 1963-70); Archbishop Curley High School, Baltimore, MD 1961-63); and Cardinal O'Hara High School, Tonawanda, NY (1970-73). From 1973-77 he served as principle of Kolbe High School in Bridgeport, CT and guardian of that local friary. He continued to teach at the school after it merged as Kolbe-Cathedral High School. From 1980-89 Fr. Maurice served as Treasurer of St. Anthony of Padua Province of the Friars. He also served as Treasurer of St. hyacinth College & Seminary in Granby, MA. In 1989 Fr. Maurice began parish ministry as parochial vicar of St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Bridgeport, CT. From 1991-97 he was pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in the Fells Point area of Baltimore, and guardian of the local Friary. He filled those same roles at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Friary in Danbury, CT from 1997-2001. In failing health, Fr. Maurice moved to the Friars' Provincial House in Ellicott City, MD in 2001. He continued to respond to requests for Mass assistance or to hear confessions as his physical condition allowed. Visiting the sick and staying in touch with friends from his various assignments remained important to him. After some 40 days in the hospital Fr. Maurice was called by Sister Death on the morning of February 2, 2005, the day the Gospel records Simeon's words "Now, Lord, you may dismiss your servant in peace."
Following a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Casimir Church, Baltimore on February 8, Fr. Maurice was interred at St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Baltimore.
