EAST TROY – Joann Elizabeth Gruling, age 52, of East Troy, died Monday Nov. 9, 1987, at the Lakeland Hospital, Elkhorn. She was born Oct 8, 1935 in Elkhorn, WI.
She lived and went to school in the Elkhorn area graduating from Elkhorn High School in 1953 and she was also a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Cosmetology. She worked for various beauty shops in the area and later did home hair care for the elderly in Walworth County. She was very active in 4-h being general leader for Troy Center 4-H for 15 years and was also very active in the Walworth County 4-H, the Lutheran Girl Pioneers, the Lutheran Ladies Aide, the Busy Boosters, the Limber Timber Square Dance Club, and also was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her husband Alfred T. Gruling. They were married in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, East Troy on June 22, 1957. Other survivors are a son Alrick T. (Cindy) Gruling, of East Troy; daughter, Julianne Gruling, at home; father, Harold Mildorfer and stepmother Helen Mildorfer of East Troy; grandsons, Nicholas, Jeremy and Travis Gruling; brother, Maynard (Sonja) Mildorfer of Fontana, Wis. Sister Ruth (Craig) Pfeiffer of Elkhorn and nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Mildorfer.
The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, East Troy. Rev. Timothy Kujath will officiate with burial in Evergreen (Quarterline) Cemetery in Town of Troy. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. tonight, Nov. 11 at St Paul's Lutheran Church, East Troy.
