Sgt Robert John Bell

Casualty of WWII, Robert was a Sergeant/Navigator in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve~Service No:1802049

He was 20 and the son of John Thomas Bell and Alice Eva Bell, of Gidea Park, Romford, Essex. He died from injuries received in the Freckleton Air Disaster. A United States Army Air Forces Consolidated B-24H-20-CF Liberator, 42-50291, "Classy Chassis II", crashed into a school and snack bar at Freckleton, Lancashire, England at 1047 hrs. while on approach to Warton Aerodrome. Twenty adults, 38 children and the three-man crew are killed. In addition to a memorial in the village churchyard, a marker was placed at the site of the accident in 2007.
