NY Times Obituary – February 25, 1950
Franklyn Baur, tenor, who twenty years ago was a leading radio singer, died yesterday of a heart ailment in his home at 674 East Twenty-fourth Street, Brooklyn. His age was 46.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Baur began his career at the age of 8, giving violin recitals. At 19, he was tenor soloist at the Park Avenue Baptist Church. He sang also at the Greenwood
Baptist Church and in many oratorios. In the early days of radio, Mr. Baur became known as “The Voice of Firestone” and also sang on the Palmolive Program. He had been a member
of the Shannon and Revelers quartettes, and had recorded for Victor. In 1931, he quit radio singing to study voice in France. Two years later, he gave a debut recital in Town Hall. A sister, Mrs. Henry W. Kuhlman survives.
