Maggie Mae Collvins was born October 25, 1897 in Red River County, Texas. She was the daughter, and the second of ten children, born to John William and Mary Drucilla Stinson. As the oldest daughter, much of the work and responsibility for the younger children fell into her hands and due to that fact, she and my father, Leslie Walter had a special relationship.
Aunt Maggie was the only grandmother I ever knew. Both my grandmothers died before I was old enough to know them, but Aunt Maggie filled that role in a marvelous way.
Married to Ocie Parker on December 10, 1916 in Bowie County, Texas, one of the great sorrows in their life was never being able to have children. My brothers and I became like their children. Loved beyond measure.
Maggie lost her beloved Ocie at the age of 46 and never remarried. She worked as a cook in a restaurant in the small town where she lived for 30 years. There were folks who thought they couldn't start their day without a breakfast cooked by Mis Parker, as she was called. She was a wonderful cook and it was impossible to visit her without being serve a huge delicious meal.
I loved her dearly and miss her always. My wonderful Aunt/Grandmother Maggie.
