United States Marine Corps Corporal Steven Patrick Gill was killed in action on July 21, 2005 near the town of Zaidon, Iraq while on a combat operation. He was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED). He was 24 years old.
Steve was born on November 3, 1980 to Vidal "Bill" Gill and Rose Marie Camero. He had one brother James Douglas Gill.
Steve was studying to be a church youth minister until the tragedy of September 11, 2001.
After 911 Steve wanted to keep terrorism out of the U.S. He joined the Marine Corps in 2002 and earned the elite designation of Recon Marine by learning to scuba dive and parachute behind enemy lines. One of his college professors was asked to describe the life of Steven Gill. He pointed to Joshua 24:15: "But for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."
On May 17, 2008, a Post Office in Round Rock, Texas was renamed in honor of Corporal Gill. Please click on photo link at right to view photograph.
