Minal Panchal,26,a Masters student in Building Sciences,was in the Norris Hall at Virginia Tech. Minal,was born in Mumbai,India,and she was very keen to go to the United States for postgraduate studies and was thrilled when she gained admission last year. Minal had studied at the Our Lady of Remedy High School and completed her undergraduate degree from Rizvi College of Architecture Mumbai in 1998. Minal, wanted to be an architect like her father,who died three years ago. She was a fan of Harry Potter,loved cricket, and Indian and Chinese cuisines.Some of her favorite movies were, When Harry Met Sally,Matrix 1,The Beach,The Way We Were,Philadelphia Story,and Seven Years in Tibet.A neighbor of Minal,said she was a bright,polite girl who would help the neighborhood children with their schoolwork. Her final-year thesis,spoke about her concerns related to deprived children.Her thesis was about building a
"Children's Museum,"which will allow them to grow and learn in a creative and enjoyable way.A friend categorised her this way',"beauty with brains"with a nice caring nature towards her friends, and enjoyed her life to the fullest.Minal is being remembered in her former Mumbai architectural college by naming a gold mrdal for meritorious students in her honour. Akhtar Hasan Rizvi,founder of the Rizvi Education Society,said this will be the best way of remembering her and also encouraging students to come up with the best design in architecture.The last rites of Minal will be performed at Odenton,Maryland,services will be Saturday,April 21.Minal was preceded in death by her father, Hiralal Panchal.She is survived by her mother,Hansaben Pachal and one sister, Kavita.People from all walks of life joined in the last rites performed by a Hindu priest at the funeral home and crematorium to remember Minal, fondly known as Minu. Among those offering their condolences to the family members of Minal was the Ambassador of India to the United States, Ronen Sen.Minal was cremated in the United States.
Cremated, Location of ashes is unknown.
