Leslie was a victim of the Virginia Tech shootings. She was a sophomore majoring in history and international studies.
Obituary: LESLIE GERALDINE SHERMAN, 20, died April 16, 2007. Born on April 9, 1987, she was a history/international studies double major at Virginia Tech.
Leslie graduated from West Springfield High School in 2005. In high school, Leslie ran cross country and track, and was the co-president of the History Honor Society. Leslie trained herself to run in the Marine Corps. Marathon last October, she was timed at 04:02:28. She saved money from high school and college to travel to Argentina (twice) and Ecuador, she enjoyed bringing home new recipes from her travels to cook with her family. She has donated her hair to Locks of Love, was a regular blood donor, and a designated organ donor.
At Virginia Tech, Leslie was in her sophomore year but was in junior standing with the amount of credits she had already received in accelerated classes while in high school, she was also in Virginia Tech's Honors program. Leslie was studying Russian and looking forward to studying abroad in Moscow for three weeks this summer, and for the spring semester next year.
At Virginia Tech, she worked 20 hours a week, as a supervisor in one of the dining halls on campus. Leslie and some peers chose to participate in the alternative Thanksgiving Break last fall, to help build houses for those who lost their homes in New Orleans by Katrina. Leslie even spoke of joining the Peace Corps after college. She had a great interest in American history and especially enjoyed the monuments and museums in Washington D.C. she even had a great fondness for Mt. Vernon and George Washington.
Leslie was preceded in death by: her grandfather Dr. John R. Sherman, Jr. and her uncle Timothy M. Sherman. Leslie is survived by: her parents, Anthony Sherman and Holly Adams; a sister, Lisa Sherman; maternal grandparents Dr. Leslie R. and Geraldine Adams of Kennewick, WA; paternal grandmother, Merle Sherman of Ocean Springs, MS; her Aunts Kathleen (Terry) Fordemwalt of Ocean Springs, MS, Wendy Adams of Kennewick, WA, Lanette Adams of Kennewick, WA, Trudi (Brian) Shaffer of Kennewick, WA, Dawn (Erick) Enwezoh of Kennewick, WA; her Uncles John (Marianne) Sherman of Biloxi, MS, and Christopher (Trina) Sherman of Austin, TX. She is also survived by cousins, Daniel Fordemwalt of Mobile, AL, Christopher Fordemwalt of Ocean Springs, MS, John (Adrianna) Sherman of Alexandria, VA, Nick Sherman of Tuscaloosa, AL, Timothy and Lucy Sherman of Vandalia, OH, Zachary, Matthew and Amy Sherman of Austin, TX, James (Kendra) Czbotar of Kennewick, WA, Derick, Jordan, Brandon, and Zachary Enwezoh of Kennewick, WA, Jaren, Bryant, Shalane and Landon Scott of Kennewick, WA, and Breanna and Tyler Shaffer of Kennewick, WA.
