DEATH OF A PAJARO MAN

William Hench, a veteran of the Civil War, died in Watsonville Friday and was buried at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the funeral services being held in the Methodist Church.

William Hench was born in Miami county, Ohio, on May 7, 1834. He moved with his parents to Iowa county, Ia., and it was there that his early life was spent.

In 1861 he answered the call of his country as a private in Company G, Seventh Iowa Volunteers. In 1866 he married Katherine L. Haverly, who with six children, survives him, viz: Ida M., Mrs. Carrie E. Fritz of Corralitos, Mrs. Etta L. Curtis of San Francisco, John M. of Chicago, Ill., Will B., and George M. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Mary Hale of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He came to California in 1885 and settled near Suisun, Solano county. A few years later he moved to San Joaquin county, but about three years ago he moved to this valley and settled near Pajaro, where he died. He was a devoted member of the Methodist Episcopal church, was of a kind and genial disposition, and had made many friends during his residence here.
