He was a graduate of Sy Paul High School class of 1938..He entered the Lansing Golden Gloves Tournament in high school and won the open light-heavyweight division.-He was a lightweight contender in the 1940's, having boxed exhibition bouts with three of the greatest fighters of all time, Gus Lesnevich, Tony Zale and Joe Louis.He owned and operated several local area Campione sports bars. In 1941 he was drafted into the Army.Leo enjoyed bowling and was an avid stock car race enthusiast and a local wrestling promotor at the Owosso Armory.
