Motorcycle Sidecar Racer. Born Malcolm Hobson, on the opening lap of the 1978 Sidecar Race during the Tourist Trophy (TT) events on the Isle of Man, Hobson and his passenger Kenny Birch, hit a manhole cover on Bray Hill, at high speed which threw the Yamaha outfit out of control. Both driver and passenger were killed in the crash. The pair were lying in 2nd place in the World Championships at the time. Hobson was a father of three, a former British Sidecar Champion and a TT race winner. Moments later another outfit passed the crash scene but crashed further down the road killing the driver, four times Swiss Champion Ernst Trachsel. Hobson was buried in Hollywood Avenue Cemetery, Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Tyne & Wear.
