The 133rd N.Y. was organized at Staten Island, N.Y. on 9/24/1862. Mr. Swift enlisted into Co. "A" on 12/19/1862 at N.Y.C. as a 2nd Lieutenant. The 133rd served in the defense of Washington. It then transferred to New Orleans and served there and at Baton rouge through March, 1865, then to the Army of the Shenandoah from March till April, 1865. It's last move was back to the defenses of Washington until 6/1865. In it's service the 133rd lost 1 officer and 26 enlisted men K.I.A., 1 officer and 17 enlisted died of wounds. As was so common in the Civil War, the regiment lost more soldiers to disease than any other cause: 1 officer and 78 enlisted men. 1 enlisted man died in the hands of the enemy as a P.O.W.
