Sgt. Christopher Larkin of Co. H, 133rd NY infantry was caught in the meat grinder that was the battle of Cedar Creek. The Confederates attacked early and in force from the south. The southernmost part of the union army had no idea what was coming. The onslaught came hard and fast quickly throwing hardened union troops into a frenzy and ultimately forcing them into retreat.Poor handling by southern officers soon caused the confederates to lose their momentum, and it would seem, their purpose, and the battle actually is remembered as a Union victory. To those union boys though, caught up in the early route, it hardly felt of victory.Sgt. Larkin was killed in this jumble of humanity.
