Burniss Burgon Kemp 1921 ~ 2006
"I'll Be Home For Christmas" played softly through the halls of the hospital on Christmas Eve as Burniss slipped away into the arms of her husband, Kel, allowing them to spend Christmas together. Burniss Burgon Kemp passed away December 24, 2006 as a result of a tragic fall in her home.
She was born September 3, 1921 to Willard Charles and Mary Ann Burgon in Union, Utah. She spent her life in Union surrounded by wonderful friends and family. She enjoyed the view from her front window of her beloved Wasatch Mountains, and claimed daily that we lived in the most beautiful spot in the world. She had a unique complexity to her that allowed her artistic mind to see colors in nature more vividly; to understand poetry more clearly; and to feel others sadness or happiness deeper than most. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest source of pleasure and was happiest when they filled her home with laughter, fun and good food. She loved to golf, to sit on her deck watching the quail, to prune her little orchard, a quiet walk through the woods at Wheeler Farm, the red hills of St. George, Big Cottonwood Canyon for a Brighton burger, the Utah Jazz, the Tabernacle Choir and most of all to beat us at cards. We will miss her dearly. Her generosity, her understanding, her graciousness, her humor, her tenderness and most of all her great capacity to love.
Member of the LDS Church, where she held a position in the Relief Society that enabled her to share her knowledge and love for literature and poetry, introducing the art to many that may never have known this beauty.
She is survived by her children: Teri and Dale Winchester, Bus and Kathy Kemp, Dana Jackson, Fred and Kelly Larsen, Katy and Bruce Jensen, 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband Kelvin Kemp, son-in-law Tom Jackson, two brothers; Archie and Maurice Burgon, and two sisters; Maggie Alldredge and Louise Newbold.
At her request, she will be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 South) at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family may call Friday, December 29, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Online Condolences may be shared with the family at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
