Death: Jun. 29, 1835

While the 1953 cemetery transcription of Mr. Hagan, as typed by Mrs. Whitley, said that Eli's stone said Eli was born in 1771, that may have been the wearing of the stone. It should have said 1776. Jesse Kennedy's 1850 Kennedy Family History said that Eli was born after Elizabeth "Betsy" (1771), Rebecca (1773), and Julia (1774). As his sister (Mary) Sophia (1777) was born after Eli. It is possible that the stone was worn enough so that it could have read 1776 at one time. 1776 is the birth year usually given for Eli.

Jesse Kennedy's 1850 "Genealogy about the Kennedy Family", which included a brief biography about Eli Kennedy said:

"Cousin Eli Kennedy came to Kentucky with his sister, Julia. and Sam Hatcher when about eighteen [about 1794], a year before his mother came, to aid in making provision for her and the balance of the family. He became a brickmason, which trade he followed for several years, and afterward became a respectable farmer. He married a McClanahan [should be Patsy McConnell] who at her death left him two sons and a daughter. He subsequently married Polly McClanahan by whom he reared four daughters and a son, Eli M. Kennedy, who is intelligent and highly respectable; all his sisters equally esteemed as a citizen and Christian; was in comfortable circumstances in life, but fell a victim to cholera, June 1835, leaving a very interesting widow [Polly McClanahan Kennedy]; at least she became very interesting to me and to my children for she has been to them one of the best of step-mothers and to me one of the best of wives. And this is not all, she furnished two of my sons with excellent wives as well."
