---James "Jim" Franklin Hughes, age 80, of Battle Creek, went to be with his Lord on Thursday afternoon, July 10, 2014. He was born in Daysville, TN on November 10, 1933, the loving son of George and Florence (Miller) Hughes. After graduating high school, Jim faithfully served his country as a member of the United States Army between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Upon his return to the United States, Jim decided to make Battle Creek his permanent home and start a family. He retired from Eaton Corporation after more than 18 years of service.
---Jim married Dorothy Jean Schutte at the Nashville Baptist Church on July 22, 1992; she survives. He is also survived by his children, James (Eileen) Hughes, Jeffrey (Angela) Hughes, Joan (Steve) Tobias, Michael (Sandra) Schutte, Kenneth (Kathy) Schutte and Jefrey (Gwen) Schutte; 10 grandchildren; great-grandchildren, and a sister, Evelyn. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Robert, Thomas and Pete.
---Jim was a man who loved God and his family. He was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Jim enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and wood working.
---The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where funeral services to celebrate Jim's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Interment with full military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorials directed to the Salvation Army or the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.
