Sandy Funeral Home, 10 January 2012:

Former longtime Sandy resident, Eva Myers died on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Tierra Rose Senior Living in Salem where she was graciously and lovingly cared for. She was 96. A graveside service will be held at Springwater Cemetery in Estacada on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. A viewing will be held prior at Sandy Funeral Home from 10:00 until noon. She was born Eva Closner to George and Grace (Sprague) Closner on October 30, 1915 on the family homestead near Oregon City. At the age of 18, Eva was married to William "Bill" Myers on November 11, 1933 in Vancouver, Washington. They moved to the Redland area where they resided for a time prior to moving to Portland. It was in 1947, that the family moved to Sandy and made their permanent home. Besides being a homemaker, wonderful cook (cakes her specialty) raising two mischievous boys, she picked berries and beans for extra income. After Eva and her husband finished raising their family, Eva went to work at Portland Adventist Medical Center as a housekeeper, later being promoted to housekeeping supervisor. After 20 years of service, Eva retired in the late 1970's. She and Bill remained in Sandy until 1995 when they moved to Salem to live near their sons and family. Upon Bill's death Eva moved into Madrona Hills Retirement in Salem where she lived until shortly before her death. Eva passed away peaceably in her sleep. Eva was a member of the Sandy Seventh- day Adventist Church for many years and later a member of the East Salem Adventist Church until her death. She was a wonderful mother and friend to her sons and will be greatly missed. She will be remembered as the matriarch of her family and one of the hardest working people that her family ever knew. Eva enjoyed crocheting, knitting and loved gardening in her flower beds even up until a year ago when her health began to fail. She also enjoyed feeding and watching birds especially the humming birds. Eva is preceded in death by her husband Bill Myers and her brother Vernon Closner. Eva is survived by her sister and best friend, Virginia Johnson of Oregon City; her sons, Don Myers and wife Pennie and Dennis Myers and wife Karen both of Salem; 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
