MAYFIELD RITES DUE THURSDAY
Funeral services for Avon Francis Mayfield, 48, Oregon State Police officer who died here Tuesday, victim of a heart attack, will be held on Thursday, June 8 at 10 a.m., daylight time. Services will be at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. James P. McGugin in charge. Burial will be o Thursday at 4 p.m., daylight time, at Clarke Cemetery, in Clarkes, Oregon.
The body will lie in state at Niswonger - Reynolds Chapel between 7 and 9 p.m., daylight time, Wednesday evening. Relatives have asked that persons wishing to make memorials do so through the Heart Fund, in care of Alan R. Libby, U.S. National Bank.
A veteran of both the Army and Navy in World War II, Mr. Mayfield was with the game division of the Oregon State Police while stationed in Bend, and prior to that was with the OSP in Salem. He was a native of Beaver Creek, where he was born on June 16, 1912. Before joining the OSP, Mr. Mayfield was a member of the Oregon City Police force for two years. He was Mason and an Elk, and attended the First Presbyterian Church.
Aside from his widow, Peggy, Mr. Mayfield is survived by a brother, Willard Mayfield, Portland, and a sister, Thelma Mudgett, also of Portland. Nieces are Virginia Rock, Oakland, Calif., and Nada Woodard, Bridgeport, Wash., and Richard Potter of Portland is a nephew.
