Alma Denton Rogers was a pioneer, schoolteacher, and dentist. He was born in Gennessee, New York. His father moved to Kirtland, Ohio, having been an intimate friend of the Prophet Joseph Smith, and there joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. From Kirtland, they moved to New Orleans and from there to Terrecoupee, Ind. From there Dr. Rogers moved to Fort Smith, Ark., where he taught school. In 1862 he arrived in Salt Lake City having driven an ox team across the plains. In Salt Lake City he opened a school and taught in different parts of the state and in Idaho. Later he learned dentistry which he practiced for many years. He fathered nine children of whom six lived to adulthood, and passed away in Lewiston, Utah at the home of his son as the result of a stroke (then called apoplexy).
