Peter VH Cozine was baptized in Pennsylvania by his grandfather the Rev. Cornelius COZINE, in the Dutch Reform Church of Conewago Colony. The group settled in York County, now part of Adams County, Pennsylvania. PVH Cozine came with his parents and siblings to Kentucky before 1792, when PVH was only three years old.
Peter VH Cozine married Sarah Hall on 30 Dec 1808 in Mercer county, Kentucky, They became parents of ten or possibly eleven children; three girls: Mary Ann, Margaret,Elizabeth. And seven known sons: Harvey, Stephen, James David, John P., Thomas J., Simon Peter, and William C. Another young man, *Allen Cozine, is believed to be the youngest son, but unproven.
Peter VH served in war of 1812 and received bounty land for his service. He volunteered, as Private of KY militia, under command of Capt David ADAMS and Gen. HOPKENS. Peter entered service at Louisville KY and was discharged there.
In his widow's pension application, Sarah states that Peter died near Salvisa. No actual burial information has been located. Since Peter's father contributed to the building of the Old Mud Meeting House and was one of the church leaders, and Peter VH Cozine was a member, we placed a memorial marker for him at the Old Mud meetinghouse graveyard in 2011.
