Tommy J. Wolfe, a loving and devoted husband and father, was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta (Charleston, MS) and died in Winona, MS.
The love of Tommy's life was his only child, Gwendolyn Wolfe Neill. Even though he was always meeting a deadline, he always put his family first. Tommy's career included: Spanish and English teacher in the Winona Public School System, sports editor of the Oxford Eagle, editor of the Grenada Daily Sentinel Star, and, for the last three years of his career – Technology and Communications Coordinator for the Winona Public School District. He was selected as Mississippi's 1997 Technology Educator of the Year. Tommy was also a Certified Novell Administrator as well as a professional photographer.
Tommy had a kind and gentle nature and was extremely humble as he battled lung cancer for the last 13 months of his life. He truly wanted to live and endured chemotherapy, radiation and interleukin treatments in an effort to prolong his life. Tommy mentored a special group of students, the WHS Tech Crew at Winona High School, including: Will Fisackerly, George M. Harris, Matthew Biggers, Katie Sullivan and Kelly Webb. Tommy was extremely fond of these special students and worked to teach them all he could as he battled his cancer.
Tommy was a member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church, and his funeral service was held at the church.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carol Ann, his daughter and son-in-law, Gwen and Jon Neill, and his precious granddaughter, Mary-Autumn Neill, who was born after her granddaddy's death. Tommy is also survived by his mother, Margie Barton Wolfe, and his brothers, Wesley and Rolph. Wesley, along with his wife, Diane Denman Wolfe have two children, Michael and his wife, Mindy, and their two sons, Grant and William; and Joy Graves and her husband, Lawson. Rolph, along with his wife, Carlene Maynor Wolfe, have two children, Alanna and Ray. Tommy's father, Roy H. Wolfe, died in February, 2006.
Tommy will also be deeply missed by the following very special pets: Bubba Boy; Dixie Lynn; Grits; Parchman; Freckles; Blue; Smokey; Pepper Dog and Roxie Claire.
Some day I'll pass by the Great Gates of Gold,
And see a man pass through unquestioned and bold...
"A Saint?" I'll ask, and 'Ol Peter'll reply...
"No, he carries a pass; he's a newspaper guy." -30-
