Death: Apr. 19, 1985

Apostle of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married Amelia Smith, the daughter of Church President Joseph Fielding Smith, who lived with them in his later years. He was called into the Presidency of the Seventy while writing for the Deseret News. Later called as an Apostle replacing his own father-in-law who passed away. Considered one of the greatest doctrinal resources of the Church, although most of his writings ventured beyond the typical and many contained more of his own personal insight rather than specific Church Doctrine. His greatest accomplishment being the revised Standard Works of the Church, adding chapter headings, a Topical Guide, Bible Dictionary, and footnotes which including alternate translational meanings of Greek and Hebrew, Joseph Smith Translation refrences, and cross referensing. (bio by: Chad Stowell)
